Sustainability

Amber glass jar on recycled kraft mailer box with twine and eucalyptus in warm natural light

Respect for nature guides everything we do.

At The Tallow Pantry, sustainability isn’t an afterthought. It’s woven into the choices we make — how we source, how we create, and how we package each small batch.

We don’t believe in perfection. We believe in progress, made thoughtfully and with transparency.

Thoughtful sourcing
Our tallow is sourced from 100% grass-fed and finished Australian beef, chosen for quality, integrity, and traceability.

We work with suppliers who share our values around responsible practices and humane handling, including halal-certified supply where available. It’s a quiet but important part of our commitment to ethically handled ingredients.

Small-batch by nature
Small-batch making keeps things intentional. It allows us to produce in limited quantities, reduce excess, and focus on what matters — careful formulation, simple processes, and consistent quality.

Packaging with purpose
We choose packaging that feels considered — protective, minimal, and made to be used well.

  • Amber glass jars, designed to be reused at home or recycled through most kerbside programs once cleaned.
  • ABS lids with an induction seal, chosen for durability and stability.
  • Shipping boxes made from 99.9% post-consumer recycled material — Australian-made, FSC certified, glue-free, and designed to be recyclable and compostable.

Recycling guidelines can vary by location. Where possible, we encourage reusing jars and checking your local council guidance for the most accurate recycling options..

At The Tallow Pantry, packaging is chosen with intention — not trend.

Our balms are stored in amber glass jars to help protect the oils inside from light exposure and to support long-term stability. Glass is inert, reusable, and endlessly recyclable.

We pair these jars with high-quality ABS lids, chosen for their durability and reliability. Unlike metal lids, ABS does not rust, corrode, or react over time — particularly important for oil-rich balms often kept in warm, humid bathrooms.

Once finished, our jars are designed to be reused at home. They’re perfectly suited to storing pantry staples such as nuts, seeds, spices, or dried goods, extending their life well beyond their first use.

Glass jars can also be recycled through most local council kerbside programs once cleaned. ABS lids are recyclable in some council areas, though acceptance varies depending on local facilities. Where kerbside recycling isn’t available, lids may be accepted through specialty or soft-plastics recycling programs.

Each jar is finished with a secure inner seal to help maintain freshness during storage and transit.

It may not be the most decorative option — but it’s the one that best protects the product you’re putting on your skin.

Because good formulation deserves equally thoughtful packaging.

Tree planting
We source our shipping boxes through Heaps Good Packaging, an Aussie-owned, B Corp certified company. For every order we place with them, they plant a tree through their tree-planting partnership — helping us reduce impact in a practical, measurable way.

Refill program (coming soon)
We’re working toward a refill option so you can replenish your favourites while reducing packaging waste. It’s not quite ready yet — but it’s part of where we’re heading.

Sustainability is a journey. We’ll keep refining what we do, and sharing updates as we go — thoughtfully, and with care.
