Frequently asked questions

What is beef tallow?

Beef tallow is pure, rendered fat from ethically sourced cattle. Once gently purified, it becomes a rich, creamy ingredient that has been used for centuries in skincare, soap-making, and more. Our grass-fed tallow closely mimics the oils naturally found in human skin, providing deep nourishment, hydration, and essential vitamins (A, D, E, K).

Is your tallow made from grass-fed beef?

Yes! We use 100% grass-fed, ethically sourced beef suet, ensuring our tallow is pure, nutrient-rich, and consistent across every batch.

What does “100% grass-fed and finished” mean, and why does it matter?

Our tallow comes from cattle raised on pasture, grazing on grass and forage throughout their lives, including the finishing phase. This pasture-based approach supports ethical, sustainable farming and regenerative land management, ensuring animals are raised naturally and humanely.

Sourcing grass-fed and finished tallow gives us a clean, creamy, high-quality base for our products — nourishing for the skin and aligned with our commitment to responsible, pasture-focused animal care.

Are your balms halal?

Yes — all of our tallow is sourced from halal-certified suppliers. This means the cattle are handled and processed according to halal practices, ensuring ethical and humane treatment.

While our skincare balms are for external use only and not edible, we use the same premium, halal-sourced tallow to create a pure, clean, and nutrient-rich base.

Our upcoming Cooking Tallow will also be fully edible and halal, made with the same high-quality ingredients you trust in our skincare range.

How should I store and use my tallow balm?

Our balms are naturally shelf-stable and designed to last. To keep yours in the best condition:

  • Keep it cool and dry: Store in a sealed jar, away from direct sunlight and heat, to maintain texture and quality.
  • Why we use glass jars: Glass is non-reactive, preserves the natural quality of tallow, and helps maintain freshness.
  • Avoid contamination: Always use a clean spoon or spatula — avoid dipping fingers directly into the jar.
  • Optional refrigeration: Not required, but can help maintain firmness or extend freshness in warmer climates. Whipped balms remain soft and easy to apply even when chilled.
  • After each use: Ensure the lid is tightly closed to keep your balm ready to enjoy.
How long does tallow balm last?
  • Balms with vitamin E: Unopened, they can last up to 18 months; once opened, use within 12 months for best quality.
  • Balms without vitamin E (Tender & Bambino): Unopened, up to 12 months; once opened, use within 6–12 months.

All our balms are made with care from pure, ethical tallow.

Does tallow need refrigeration?

Not necessarily. Our balms are made from well-rendered, high-quality tallow, which is naturally stable at room temperature. Refrigeration is optional to maintain firmness or extend freshness, especially in warmer climates.

What happens if my tallow melts?

Our balms are made from natural tallow and beeswax, so they can soften or lose shape in hot conditions. This is normal and does not affect their quality, scent, or performance.

To restore firmness, place the jar in the fridge or a cool room for a short time until it solidifies.

Tip: Store away from direct sunlight or heat sources to maintain texture, especially during summer or warm-weather shipping.

What’s the difference between firm and whipped tallow?

Both are made from pure, high-quality tallow, but the experience differs:

  • Firm balm: Dense and rich — glides slowly for intense nourishment, ideal for dry areas or overnight care.
  • Whipped balm: Light, airy, and soft — spreads easily for quick absorption, perfect for daily moisturising.

Both provide the deeply nourishing benefits of our ethically sourced tallow.

Is your tallow suitable for sensitive skin?

Absolutely! Tender and Bambino are formulated to be super gentle and safe, with minimal ingredients and very limited essential oils, making them ideal for sensitive or reactive skin.

  • If desired, we can make a version completely free of essential oils upon request.
  • As with any skincare product, we recommend patch-testing before full use.
Are your balms cruelty-free?

Yes! Our balms are not tested on animals. The tallow we use comes from cattle raised for food on ethical, pasture-based farms, ensuring humane treatment throughout their lives.

Are your balms vegan?

No — our balms are made from pure beef tallow, so they are not suitable for a vegan lifestyle.

Can these balms be used on babies or children?

Yes! Bambino is specially formulated for delicate baby skin and contains fewer essential oils than all our other balms. Always perform a patch test first on sensitive areas. Do not use on babies under 3 months

Do your balms contain preservatives?

Our balms contain no artificial preservatives. They remain naturally shelf-stable due to the high-quality, pure tallow base, which is inherently resistant to rancidity, combined with our carefully selected minimal ingredients. In some products, we include vitamin E as a natural antioxidant to further support longevity and maintain the balm’s freshness, without the need for synthetic additives.

What makes your tallow different from others?

Our tallow is sourced exclusively from Australian farms where animals are grass-fed and finished, raised with ethical, pasture-based care to ensure their wellbeing. It is minimally processed, preserving its natural purity, rich nutrients, and wholesome quality.

Packed with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, it provides a naturally nourishing base for our balms. All our suppliers are Halal-certified, guaranteeing that sourcing and handling meet strict ethical standards. This careful combination of quality ingredients and ethical practices results in a luxurious, creamy, and consistent balm that truly stands apart from mass-produced alternatives, offering both indulgence and integrity in every jar.

Can I use this on face, body, hands, and feet?

Yes! Our balms are safe and effective for all areas of the body, though you might prefer whipped balms for face and hands and firm balms for dry elbows, knees, or feet.

Do you offer fragrance-free options?

Some of our balms contain minimal essential oils. While we don’t currently have a fragrance-free version, one is in development for the future.

Can tallow balms be layered with other skincare products?

Yes! Our balms can be used alongside other oils, serums, or lotions, and can also double as a natural makeup primer, helping foundation glide smoothly while keeping skin hydrated and nourished.

How much balm should I use?

A pea-sized amount is usually enough for face or hands. Larger areas like elbows, knees, or feet may require a bit more. Warm it between your fingers before applying for smooth absorption.

Are your jars recyclable?

Yes! Our jars are food-grade, recyclable glass, and we encourage customers to reuse them creatively — for storing pantry staples like seeds, homemade dressings, or spices, making candles, or any other small household uses.

Currently, the lids are plastic, but we are actively working to source fully recyclable lids for future batches. Every small step helps us reduce waste and care for the planet.
